LIFE (Before and After)

LIFE (Before and After)

This is the latest in my Urban Graffiti Grunge style. This painting is done on a 3-D gallery wrap canvas, textured with plaster, and measuring 30 inches high by 24 inches wide.

Before Jesus came into the world, darkness reigned supreme. The world was without hope, full of despair, and hatred, sin and corruption. This also describes our own personal lives before Jesus came and rescued us. But after Jesus came, He brought hope to the world, salvation, joy and the Holy Spirit. And most of all, he brought LIFE to a world desperate for change. And not just life, but life everlasting. Jesus changed the landscape of the world for all eternity! How awesome and wonderful to behold the "Glory of God" which has come to mankind!

Graffiti Love #1

"Graffiti Love #1"

Adding layer upon layer like an old wall marked up with layers of graffiti, this work uses the Letters L, O, V, and E in the painting, but you have to look closely to find them. Acrylic and Plaster of Paris on a quality, gallery wrap canvas, this painting is pure urban art from the heart of Phoenix, AZ. Enjoy!

Signed on the front and dated on the back.

Ripe for the Harvest

"Ripe for the Harvest"
With all things living, there always comes a time for the harvest. When the grain turns golden yellow, and the days are growing shorter, the time of harvest has come. Harvest is always a great time of year, a happy time, when we get to enjoy the fruit of all our labor for the year.

This acrylic painting is done using a variety of techniques, textures, in various shades of yellows and golds. A clear gloss glaze is applied over the top, and is on an 8" by 12" canvas panel, signed and dated on the back.

It can be purchased on my website: www.couturierstudio.com

Patches of Snow

"Patches of Snow"
I did this abstract in acrylic with a palette knife on a canvas panel board. The size is 8" by 10", signed and dated on the back. This is a rugged piece using sharp angles and dark colors to depict the harshness of winter in a mountain setting. I used some metallic paints to show the shimmering reflections of light off the mountain. Growing up in northern Montana, the winters were extremely harsh. So I moved to Phoenix where the summers are extremely harsh. I guess I'm a man of extremes.

Hints of Orange

"Hints of Orange"
Experimenting with color, shapes, and texture are all part of the fun. When I was young, I would spend hours experimenting with the Chemistry set my parents bought me for Christmas. Next thing you know, my pajamas were full of holes from the acid I was working with. That had to be one of the funnest Christmas presents I ever got. I'm excited about what turns out in the future.
This painting is a small 6" by 12" acrylic and marker on a canvas panel board. It is not signed on the front, but on the back I have signed and dated it. It can be purchased on my website at:

Impressions of Color

"Impressions of Color"

The most important thing about anything you do, is that you enjoy it. When you stop enjoying it, it's time to do something different. On the other hand, we all experience times when we are uninspired, and we need to press through. Usually it's when I press through, that ideas begin to develop in my mind and lead me to inspiration.

This is my first painting in this particular style, and I had a lot of fun with it. I still use my contrasting style of black against color, that is very characteristic of my paintings. I love contrast because it's bold. Anyone who sees my work would say, "This is Bold." I'm not a subtle painter. However, I always like to use some subtlety in the background of my paintings. I like things happening in the background that may not register on a conscious level. I hope to do a lot more in the future with this.

A Light in the Darkness

"A Light in the Darkness"

This small painting is my interpretation of Christmas. Using a brush and palette knife on a 5" by 7" canvass panel, depicts what happened the day Jesus came into the world. Before Jesus came, the whole world lived in spiritual darkness. But on that day, a light came to this world, and it's been shining brighter and brighter ever since. What a glorious thing that God has done! To purchase this painting, go to my website at couturierstudio.com
